Open Enrollment FAQ

Q1: When is Open Enrollment?
A: Open Enrollment is January 4th through February 28th.   

Q2: What is Open Enrollment?
A: Open Enrollment the best time to enroll your student in TK, Kindergarten.  Parents may choose the elementary school of their choice, and for the remainder of their stay at that school, the family will be treated as a resident of that school.  It is also the best time to choose a middle school for 5th grade families.  Families choosing a school after open enrollment receive a lower priority.  

Q3: Do TK and Kindergarten families need to fill out an Intradistrict transfer form to choose a school outside of their attendance area?
A: No.  During Open Enrollment TK & K families may choose their school of choice.  Grades 1-12 must complete an Intradistrict Transfer Form with Student Services.  

Q4: If my student is already enrolled in their school from last year and won’t be changing schools, do I still need to register during open enrollment? 
A: No, you are all set.  You should however, make sure the school has all of your current contact information.

Q5: Will TPA resident 5th grade students attending other elementary schools have TPA as their default middle school for grades 6-8?
A: No.  All TPA 5th grade students who are currently attending other schools, will have TMS as their middle school of residence.  If these families want to attend TPA or LJMS, they will need to apply through the intradistrict transfer process. 

Q6: Will we take IDT families (families from outside the district boundaries) during open enrollment?
A: Yes, but they should be on a waitlist.  We need to ensure that our own families are given priority registration before outside families enroll.  

Q7: How will 5th grade families hear about open enrollment?
A: We will use Facebook, the district’s website, direct email, and hard copies going home with students.  These messages will start before winter break in December, then continue in January when we return from winter break.  All communication will be in both English and Spanish.  We will also be communicating with 5th grade teachers, so they understand the process as well.  

Q8: Will the LJMS lottery be equal for all families, or will the district enforce the enrollment priorities as part of the lottery process?
A: We will use enrollment priorities set forth in CRPUSD board policy 5116.1 & administrative regulation  5116.1   

Q9: What priority do families have after open enrollment?
A: All enrollments after the open enrollment window will be taken on a first come, first served basis, using the district’s enrollment priorities.  

Q10: Will all sites have TK classes this year?
A: Yes, all six elementary schools will have TK classes this year.

Q11: When is the LJMS lottery?
A: It will take Student Services one month to process all the transfers and ensure data integrity.  The LJMS lottery will take place in the first two weeks of April, in the M1 conference room at the district office.  The lottery is open to the public, and all families on the lottery list will receive an email and letter about the date and time of the lottery.  

Q12: If my 5th grade student currently attends Evergreen or Marguerite Hahn, do they automatically get enrolled at Lawrence Jones Middle School as a new 6th grader?
A: No.  Each middle school has a unique attendance zone, that is not related to the attendance zones of elementary schools.  Every family should look at the district website to find out which middle school is their resident school, here is the link.  Simply unclick the elementary schools on the left side, and enter your address in the available space. If you’d like to choose a different middle school than your resident school, you’ll need to complete an intradistrict transfer form and submit it to Student Services by February 28, 2022.  The intradistrict transfer is based on space availability, which may include a lottery process.

P1: ¿Qué es la inscripción abierta?
R1: La inscripción abierta es el mejor momento para inscribir a su hijo/a en TK o en el Kinder en la escuela para el siguiente año escolar. También es el mejor momento para entregar la documentación si desea trasladar/cambiar a su hijo/a a otra escuela dentro del distrito.

P2: ¿Cuándo es la fecha de la inscripción abierta?
R2: La inscripción abierta para el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Cotati-Rohnert Park comienza el 5 de enero de 2022 y se extiende hasta el 28 de febrero de 2022.

P3: ¿Ofrecerán todos los sitios escolares Kindergarten Transicional (TK)?
R3: No. El distrito escolar ofrecera TK en 2 o 3 sitios escolares. Los sitios elegidos para ofrecer programas de TK deben disponer de espacio e instalaciones que cumplan requisitos. El distrito pronto anunciará los sitios de TK.

P4: ¿Qué edad debe tener mi hijo/a para poder cumplir con los requisitos de TK?
R4: Para el año escolar 2022-2023, el cumpleaños de su hijo/a debe ser entre el 2 de septiembre de 2017 y el 2 de febrero de 2018.

P5: ¿Qué edad debe tener mi hijo/a para poder inscribirlo/a en el Kínder?
R5: Para el año escolar 2022-2023, el cumpleaños de su hijo/a debe ser entre el 2 de septiembre de 2016 y el 1 de septiembre de 2017.

P6: ¿Cómo puedo inscribir a mi hijo/a en TK o en el Kínder?
R6: Simplemente vaya a nuestro sitio web del distrito en www.crpusd.org, y haga clic en Inscripción (Enrollment). La registración se realiza principalmente en línea.

P7: ¿Ofrecen recorridos de las escuelas?
R7: Sí. Para programar un recorrido escolar, simplemente llame o envíe un correo electrónico a la escuela a la que está interesado en asistir. Para su conveniencia, a continuación, se muestra una tabla con información de contacto.

P8: ¿Cuántas personas podrán asistir al recorrido?
R8: Las reglas de seguridad COVID-19 limitarán cada recorrido a no más de veinte personas a la vez.

P9: ¿Qué pasa si no tengo la tecnología para el registro en línea o tengo dificultades con la inscripción en línea?
R9: Puede pasar por una de nuestras escuelas o la oficina del distrito, las cuales tienen una computadora en la oficina principal reservada para apoyar a nuestras familias con la inscripción. Nuestro personal está dispuesto a ayudarle.

P10: ¿Qué pasa si decido solicitar el cambio de escuela para mi hijo/a después de la inscripción abierta?
R10: Durante la inscripción abierta, todas las transferencias serán consideradas igualmente. Después de la inscripción abierta, todas las solicitudes de transferencia se tratan por orden de entrega y su prioridad es más baja que las solicitudes entregadas durante la inscripción abierta.

P11: ¿Qué sucede si la escuela secundaria que seleccione no tiene suficiente cupo para todos los que desean asistir?
R11: Si una escuela alcanza su capacidad y solo tiene un número limitado de espacios disponibles, todas las solicitudes de transferencia que se enviaron durante la ventana de inscripción abierta serán consideradas igualmente. El distrito llevará a cabo una rifa para los espacios disponibles y colocará a todos los que no ingresaron a la escuela de su elección en una lista de espera, según el orden en que se los nombres fueron sorteados durante la rifa.

P12: ¿Es requisito que mi hijo/a esté vacunado contra el COVID-19 para asistir a la escuela el año escolar 2022-2023?
R12: En este momento, la vacuna contra el COVID-19 no es obligatoria para los estudiantes, sin embargo, es muy recomendable. CRPUSD sigue todas las reglas establecidas por el Departamento de Salud Pública de California.

P13: Mi hijo/a está dentro de la edad para TK, sin embargo, me gustaría inscribirlo/a en el Kinder. ¿Puedo hacer esto?
R13: No. Seguimos la edad recomendada por el Departamento de Educación de California mencionadas anteriormente.
